Gold Anklet Causes Burns

Two salesmen and a general manager of a jewelry shop in Dubai were fined Dh2,000 each for unintentionally harming a two-month-old Emirati boy. The three Indians and a Pakistani were also ordered to pay Dh20,100 in civil compensation to the boy's father after they had sold a gold anklet to the baby's father without first washing off the chemical solution used to wash and polish the gold ornaments.

A few minutes after the anklets were put on the baby's leg, he began to scream in pain. The chemicals had left burn marks on the baby's skin, and part of his clothes were also burned. The chemical used was sulfuric acid, which can cause serious skin damage. The baby was rushed to the emergency room, and he made a full recovery.
